Powys APB Service User Involvement Strategy Consultation

We are asking service users to review the Area Planning Board (APB) Service User Involvement Strategy.

The purpose of the strategy is to ensure that all members of the APB understand, and are committed to, involving service users and provides the overarching direction to ensure that APB members involve service users in the planning and delivery of substance misuse services in Powys in a consistent, meaningful and joined-up way.

We aim to do the initial feedback through 5 questions that should take around five minutes to complete plus the time to read the document

If you would like to give your feedback on this, please click the link below to take you to the form

Area Planning Board Reps needed

We are looking for current/ex-service users or carers of people with substance misuse issues to be part of the Area Planning Board (APB).

The APB is the body that gives direction to services working in Substance misuse in Powys

The purpose of Powys’ APB is to provide advice and support to “plan, commission and monitor the delivery of high-quality treatment and prevention services that are based on the need to improve the lives of substance misusers, families and communities”.

This role would give the rep full membership of the APB board, and a voice in how services around substance misuse are shaped in Powys.

Powys APB recognises that service users’ skills and experiences mean that they are uniquely placed to help inform every level of how we:

  • design, develop, deliver and review substance misuse services

  • ensure that our services are meeting the needs of substance misusers

  • provide good quality services that deliver positive outcomes for service users

Through the involvement of service users in the planning and review of substance misuse services, the APB can:

  • ensure that services are relevant to local needs

  • ensure that services are accountable to service users

  • enable service users to voice their opinion on services and identify good practice and areas of concern

  • have a mechanism through which it can consult with service users

Similarly, through the regular and meaningful involvement of service users in the Design and monitoring of substance misuse services, service users can:

  • be valued and heard

  • be empowered

  • share their experiences and expertise

  • learn new skills and interests

  • develop mutual support networks

Reps would be expected to attend quarterly meetings (virtually at this moment in time) and to obtain the views of other service users as well as giving their own personal experiences of services in the county

Successful reps will have:

  • Support officer to help in carrying out your role

  • free training

  • all expenses will be covered

  • loan of IT equipment, if needed

  • free training

Closing date for applications to be sent/emailed back to PAVO Tuesday, 1st December 2020.
