Generally small grants under £5,000 are available to registered charities in England and Wales working in the areas of the arts, education, medical research, sport and, particularly social welfare (over 80% of all awards are for charities working in the area of social welfare).

The John Beckwith Charitable Trust generally awards grants of under £5,000 to registered charities in England and Wales that are working in the following fields:

o Arts.
o Education.
o Medical Research.
o Sport, 
and
o Social Welfare.

The vast majority of grants made are for charities working in the area of  social welfare.

Grants over the last 2 years were awarded against the following headings:

Art: 1 grant totalling £105,000 (2021: no grants awarded)).
Education: 2 grants totalling £40,378 (2021: 2 grants totalling £6,000).
Medical Research: 3 grants totalling £9,000 (2021: 4 grants totalling £11,000).
Sport: 1 grant totalling £1,000 (2021: 1 grant totalling £100,000).
Social Welfare: 36 grants totalling £198,900 (2021: 44 grants totalling £142,500).
