The Britford Bridge Trust's main activity is the provision of financial support/grants to registered charities which further the Trust's wide-reaching charitable objectives for the benefit of the general public throughout the United Kingdom, and also internationally. Notwithstanding its wide-reaching charitable objects, a primary focus is placed on:
o The prevention or relief of poverty.
o The advancement of education.
o The advancement of health or the saving of lives, and
o The advancement of the arts, culture, heritage or science.
The Trust has a secondary focus on:
o The advancement of citizenship or community development.
o The advancement of amateur sport.
o The advancement of environmental protection or improvement; and
o The relief of those in need, by reason of youth, age, ill-health, disability, financial hardship or other disadvantage.
When considering which applicants to support, the Trust will prioritise those that help realise its primary charitable purposes. if not, it will be one of its secondary charitable purposes. Charities working at a national and/or international level appear to be preferred, although charities operating at a local and regional level will also be considered, particularly if they’re working in Cambridge, Dorset and Wolverhampton.
While the majority of grants are between £10,000 and £30,000, a number of awards are for significantly higher amounts and can be made over several years.
The Trust considers applications every 3 months and will also meet at least annually to discuss and review applications to the trust
