With the Foundation scheduled to meet in November to review requests for grant support, this may be a good time to submit a letter of application to Lord Barnby’s Foundation. Please note, however, that as the Foundation is a discretionary grant-maker, meaning that it has the ability to fund a diverse spectrum of causes, applying can be something of a lottery.
The Foundation supports a wide range of registered charities across the UK through its Discretionary Donations scheme. Awards have previously been made to:
o Environmental causes.
o Health and medical charities.
o Hospices and hospitals.
o Museums.
o People with a disability. and
o Uniformed youth groups such as Scouts and Sea Scouts.
Grants are usually for between £500 and £12,000, with no matched funding requirement.
During the year ended 31 March 2021, the Foundation awarded 66 grants totalling £206,250 (2020: 77 grants totalling £313,000?. Grants ranged from £500 to £12,000, with an average award of slightly under £4,000.
Please note that the Foundation does not have a website. Further information is, however, available on the Charity Commission website.
Applications may be made at any time in writing and should include:
o A brief description of the organisation and project, and
o A copy of the organisation’s most recent accounts.
Applications are considered every 4 months, in February, June and November annually.
