BE GAMBLE AWARE: AFTERCARE FUNDING PROGRAMME

Grants of up to £350,000 are available for not-for-profit organisations in England, Scotland and Wales for initiatives that provide a sustained , long-term recovery from gambling harms.

In addition to BeGambleAware’s Community Resilience Fund, the charity has also launched an Aftercare Funding Programme. The programme, which has a budget of £2 million, offers grants of up to £350,000. Grants are designed to support projects that provide long-term recovery from gambling harm and addiction, and which enable them to rebuild a healthier and happier life.

The programme has 3 overarching priorities:

1. Projects delivered in partnership, particularly where the partnership involves a gambling specialist organisation and other organisations with different specialisms.
2. Projects which aim to reach those who experience the greatest inequalities or people from disadvantaged communities, 
and
3. Projects which are led by people with lived experience of gambling harms.

Projects should meet one or more of the following core recovery outcomes:

o Improved mental health and wellbeing.
o Improved self-image (including, but not limited to, reducing stigma).
o Increased confidence and self-believe in ability to accomplish goals (self-efficacy).
o Increased knowledge about relevant supports available for those who have experienced gambling harms (directly or as affected by others) and among their support networks.
o Increased positive personal networks of support (including communities of understanding),
 and/or
o Increased practical skills, including, but not limited to, financial and employability skills.

Examples of potential projects provided by the funder include (please note that this is not an exclusive list):

o Coaching intervention for people who have experienced significant harms from their gambling.
o Online or in-person network for people to connect and share ideas about aftercare and long-term recovery.
o Providing a specialist service for a specific target group, such as Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic, Women and/or LGBTQi, 
and
o Relationship or whole family counselling delivered in partnership between a specialist counselling charity and a gambling harm charity.

The following grants are available:

1. Level 1 Grants of up to £150,000 for smaller projects, which should be 18 months to 3 years long, and
2. Level 2 Grants of up to £350,000 for larger projects, which should be for 2-3 years months long.

Projects will be expected to start from November 2022.

Funding is not available for:

o Any activity which involves evangelising or proselytising.
o Organisations that adopt a partisan political stance or activities which are party political, 
or
o Requests for more than 50% of a group's previous year's annual turnover.
