Play Wales seek new Chair for Board of Trustees

Children in Wales is the national umbrella organisation for those working with children, young people and families in Wales and its work is underpinned by the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child.

The current Chair, Dr Dave Williams will be standing down at our AGM in October 2022 after serving two full terms of office. We are therefore seeking to recruit a new Chair for the Trustee Board.

The Chair is responsible to the Trustee Board and to the membership of the organisation for its governance and strategic direction. This is a particularly exciting time for the organisation, with the launch of our new vision and mission statements along with an increasing amount of direct work with children and young people enabling them to influence policy.

Applicants should have experience of strategic leadership at a senior level within a large organisation, in the academic, statutory or not-for-profit sector. Experience in public office and of a Trustee Board or Management Committee of a similar organisation is highly desirable. Applicants must have a demonstrable commitment and interest in children’s rights. We are keen that our Trustee Board represents the breadth of our membership and the whole community of children and young people in Wales. The Chair should be in a position to be able to speak independently on behalf of Children in Wales.

Most of all, you will be passionate about improving the lives of our children and young people, and committed to inspiring everyone with our vision of them at the heart of a strong Wales. This is an exciting opportunity to continue with what this charity has already achieved and to make a major difference to the lives of children in the future. We look forward to meeting you.

The position of Chair requires a moderate time commitment and is unsalaried, although travelling expenses can be claimed. Formal meetings of the Board currently take place on a quarterly basis, however, the Chair should expect to make a commitment to at least 12 meetings per year.
