At the children and young people round tables last year for the Wales delivery plan for the UK Strategy for Financial Wellbeing, we heard that the sector would welcome knowing what services were being delivered and who was delivering them. The Money and Pensions Service (MaPS) will shortly begin work on a financial education provision mapping exercise. This will build the most comprehensive and up-to-date picture of work taking place across Wales and the UK to improve children and young people’s money skills.
 
This exercise will help the sector to: 

• understand the current state of financial education interventions across the UK, including the scale, location, reach, and cost,
• understand gaps in provision, to inform policy, funding and strategy decisions, and
• ensure financial education is targeted where it is most needed.

This year the research will also help us to build a picture of the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on the services the sector provides.

Many thanks to those that took part in the 2019 provision mapping exercise, which helped shape the UK Strategy for Financial Wellbeing and MaPS’ Children and Young People Programme. As in previous years, the provision mapping exercise will gather information

from financial education funders and providers through an online survey. The 2021 survey will go live in early November and we are currently in the process of selecting an independent supplier to support the data collection, analysis and reporting.
