Winter Workshops

A message from the Fathom Trust

I am writing to let you know about our weekly community land-based workshops that are now up and running at Llanfellte in Bwlch. Our projects have so far included hazel coppicing in our small woodland, community gardening and some light carpentry skills. Over the autumn and winter months we are working alongside a recent graduate of Black Mountains College who is supporting our group to build a new round wood garden shelter. The group are also learning how to split and weave hazel hurdles, and helping in the design and creation of a new community kitchen garden that will serve our Making Well courses here in Bwlch next year. We are running every Tuesday until the end of January and have places available on every workshop running between 9.45am-1.30pm. Our sessions end with a shared seasonal lunch around the fire.

Our current participants are finding these sessions to be an enjoyable part of their week, a chance to be outside and experience the changing seasons, to meet up with familiar and friendly faces each week and have opportunities to learn new land-based skills.

We are keen to offer spaces to those who are looking to find ways to improve their mental, physical and emotional health and wellbeing among a supportive community of like minded people, especially as we enter into the colder months ahead. We welcome referrals from within the Brecon and surrounding communities and are open to anyone who may want to come with a carer, friend or family member if that would support them to take part.
