Learning Aims & Outcomes
This course is aimed at all staff in health and social care. At the end of the training session, there is a short written assessment to evidence the learning of the attendees.

Introduction - Importance of communication in the adult social care setting. | • Identify reasons why people communicate • Explain how effective communication affects all aspects of working in adult social care settings • Explain why it is important to observe an individual's reactions when communicating with them |
Individual’s communication and language needs | • Explain why it is important to find out an individual's communication and language needs • Identify what compassionate communication is and how it can be applied • Describe a range of communication methods |
Barriers to communication | • Identify barriers to communication • Describe ways to reduce barriers to communication • Describe ways to check that communication has been understood • Identify sources of information and support or services to enable more effective communication |
Confidentiality | • Define the term 'confidentiality' • Describe ways to maintain confidentiality in day to day communication • Describe situations where information normally considered to be confidential might need to be shared with agreed others • Explain how and when to seek advice about confidentiality |
