The Kilroot Foundation is an Oxfordshire-based grant-making charity with three trustees, one of whom is also a trustee of the Clothworker’s Foundation, which provides small (under £10,000), medium (£10,001-£100,000) and large (£100,001 and over) capital grants for UK registered charities and not-for-profits working in the areas of alcohol and substance misuse, disadvantaged minority communities, disadvantaged young people, domestic and sexual abuse, homelessness, older people, people with disabilities, prisoners and ex-offenders and people with a visual impairment.
The Kilroot Foundation focuses its grant-making on the following areas:
o Conservation of the natural and built environment.
o Helping young people to develop their skills, capacity and capabilities, and
o Other such charitable purposes as deemed appropriate.
The Foundation only awards grants to UK registered charities. However, while it makes grants to UK-based charities, the Foundation may apply the grants to support work done by those charities overseas.
Grants are made based on applications that have been made to the Foundation and also charities nominated by the trustees following research undertaken on specific organisations.
The Foundation will consider both one-off grants, often to support capital or project needs. It will also consider grants made with a commitment to repeat over several years, typically in 3-year cycles.
During the year ended 5th April 2024, the Foundation awarded 24 grants totalling £258,100 (2023: £232,950).
Grants made, which ranged from £500 to £60,000, were a mixture of donations towards the general purposes of the charity concerned and grants in support of specific charitable projects.
A list of all grant recipients is provided on page 4 of the Foundation’s annual accounts.
Please note that the Foundation does not have a website. Further information is, however, available on the Charity Commission website.
