Free social guided walks for beginners & 50+ to build confidence and enjoy the outdoors from March until June 2026

These sessions offer free, beginner-friendly guided walks designed specifically for adults who may be returning to activity, lacking confidence to walk alone, or looking to improve their wellbeing through gentle outdoor activity and social connection.

The purpose of the programme is to build a supportive local community of walkers who feel welcome and confident outdoors. These are not fitness walks or challenging hikes — the pace is gentle, routes are easy, and the focus is on wellbeing, confidence and enjoyment rather than distance or speed.

Over time, participants may choose to progress into other guided outdoor activities when they feel ready, but there is no expectation or pressure to do so. The aim is long-term confidence and community rather than one-off attendance.

• Open to all adults (with particular suitability for those aged 50+)

• Suitable for beginners and those returning to walking

• Gentle pace in a supportive group environment

• Local events near Brecon, the Mountain Centre, Craig Cerrig y Gleisiad and the Usk Reservoir

• Some walks can be reached by public transport, and for others it may be possible to arrange lift-sharing between participants.

• A total of 6 guided walks between middle of March and end of June (there might be more in the future, if this round is successful)

• Led by qualified, fully insured guides

• Completely free to participants (National Lottery funded)

• Booking and safety managed through Guided Outdoor Adventures. As numbers are limited, pre-booking via the Guided Outdoor Adventures website is essential.
