Cancer Community Connectors Winter Newsletter

It has been a busy end of year for the Cancer Community Connector….

In October, one of the Cancer Community Connectors attended the final Severn Hospice Coffee Morning in Newtown. This warm and welcoming event brought together local residents who are affected by life limiting health conditions, including cancer.  Volunteers and staff came together to offer a chance to connect with a cuppa and delicious cake.

The service also attended the Lingen Davies Cancer Champion online where trained Cancer Champions from across the region came together to share learning and strengthen community support . The event included presentations from several key services, including:

  • Powys Money Advice Team
  • Powys County Council Smoking Cessation Team
  • Improving the Cancer Journey in Powys (ICJ Powys) and one of the Community Connectors also contributed by sharing their role within the Improving the Cancer Journey in Powys team, highlighting how we support individuals affected by cancer through personalised guidance, referrals, and what matters conversations.

The ICJ Community Connectors signpost to a number of wellbeing opportunities now available to residents across Mid Wales, some made available by the Lingen Davies Fund. These initiatives support physical, emotional, and social wellbeing, offering meaningful ways for people to connect, relax, and explore new skills.  To explore the full programme of activities, including upcoming sessions, visit https://www.lingendavies.co.uk/cancer-hub/wellbeing-programme

The team has also recently completed training in My Life, My Wishes—a supportive approach that helps individuals think about, express, and plan for what matters most to them. This training strengthens the team’s ability to provide person-centred guidance and empower people when making decisions about their desired care and future plans.
