THE SPEECH, LANGUAGE AND HEARING FOUNDATION
Guidelines for Applications
As a grant making charity, we provide grants to fund projects and activities carried out by other charities. For an application to be considered by the Trustees, applicants should note the following guidelines.
Who may apply?
We will only consider applications from charities registered with the Charity Commission, or charities that hold a Certificate of Exemption from the Inland Revenue. Overseas applicants must supply the details of
a UK registered charity through which grants can be channelled on their behalf.
We concentrate our funding on small national or local charities; the Trustees are unlikely to support large national charities which enjoy wide support. We do not accept applications from individuals unless they are
supported by a registered UK charity.
What type of work do we support?
We restrict our funding to charities working in the following areas:
• Children who have hearing impairment, speech delay, language or communication difficulties, or who have complex needs
• Medical innovation and new developments relating to these children • Research in all topics relating to these children
How do you apply?
Your first step should be to review the points above carefully to ensure that any application that you make to us will meet our criteria. You should give us sufficient information to allow us to evaluate your application.
As a first step, you should email a brief outline of your application to: administrator@slhf.org.uk
This should include your charity registration number or that of your supporting charity, together with a few short paragraphs outlining your project, its overall cost, the amount you will be seeking from the Foundation, and the period over which it will be spent (we will consider making one, two or three year donation commitments).
In the event that your application meets the criteria set by the Trustees, you will then receive an Application Form to be completed either online or returned by post. You should also return or enclose the following
information about your organisation:
▪ Summary income and expenditure budget for the project
▪ Most recent annual report and accounts
We will write to you with the Trustees’ decision regarding your application as soon as possible, but it may be several months before you hear from us.
When can you re-apply?
If your application is successful, you can re-apply a year after our final payment. We do not accept applications from applicants who have applied within the previous twelve months, whether they have been successful or not.
