Shared Lives is a unique way of supporting people in the community. We’d love to start a conversation and help everyone learn more.
What do you, your colleagues, friends, and family know about Shared Lives Powys?
You can work while being a Shared Lives carer – it’s all about finding the right match.
It’s not welcoming a stranger into your home – we arrange introductions so you and the person can build a relationship first.
You’re not alone – every Shared Lives carer has ongoing support from an allocated Scheme Officer who monitors the arrangement and ensures it works for everyone.
Shared Lives is flexible – perfect for parents seeking home-based work, people nearing retirement, families, single people, and couples (Many carers work alongside their Shared Lives role).
We support older people too! – as well as individuals with a wide range of needs including people with Learning Disabilities.
You choose what works for you – short breaks/respite, sessional support, emergency, or long-term arrangements.
It’s not voluntary – It’s a paid, self-employed role.
Who can access Shared Lives?
We support adults 18+ with needs such as learning disability, mental health, older people, dementia, ASD, disabilities, substance misuse issues and prevention of hospital admission or hospital discharge. Shared Lives focuses on strength-based support & helping individuals stay connected to their communities. Becoming a Shared Lives carer is enriching for you and your family, and you have choice, arrangements only happen if everyone agrees it’s the right match. We do ask for a referral from a social worker or health professional with a care and support plan.
