THE THOMAS WALL TRUST: GRANTS FOR REGISTERED CHARITIES

A limited number of revenue grants of up to £5,000 are available to UK registered charities that are developing communication skills for disadvantaged adults aged 18 and over so that they can improve their employment prospects, self-confidence, resilience and life-chances.

Application deadline: MONDAY 22nd DECEMBER 2025 for Stage 1 applications (Expressions of Interest).

The Thomas Wall Trust awards a small number grants of up to £5,000 annually to UK registered charities for specific projects or core activities that provide disadvantaged adults aged 18 and over with the necessary communication skills for improving their employment prospects, self-confidence, resilience, and life chances.

Applications from charities working with marginalised and disadvantaged groups, such as asylum seekers, refugees, women and people with learning, mental or physical disabilities, are welcomed.

Grants of up to £5,000 are available for a period of up to 3 years. Projects that have matched funding in place are likely to be prioritised. Applying charities must have an annual turnover of more than £25,000 and less than £500,000.

Grants can be used for project or running costs.

During the year ended 31st July 2024, the Trust received 369 to its Grants to Registered Charities programme and 275 applications to its Grant to Individuals programme (2023: 342 and 507 respectively).

From these applications, the Trust awarded just 22 grants (2023: 25) to registered charities totalling £51,688 (2023: £68,685) and 76 grants (2023: 93) grants to individuals totalling £105,874 (2023: £123,788).

Grants made to charitable organisations during the year are listed at the foot of page 11 of the Trust’s annual accounts.

Funding is not available for:

o Capital costs (i.e. the purchase of land, buildings or construction).
o Charities that operate outside of the UK.
o Hospitals.
o Organisations with political, lobbying or proselytizing (the action of attempting to convert someone from one religion, belief, or opinion to another), 
or
o Subsidiaries or franchises of larger charities.

The Trust operates a two-stage application process for its Charities Grant programme, as follows:

1. Stage 1 is to complete an Expression of Interest form which requires some basic contact information and a short description of what the applicant requires the funding for.
2. 
Stage 2 is by invitation only and involves completing a more detailed application form.

The next deadline for Stage 1 applications (an Expression of Interest) is Monday 22nd December 2025 for the Trust’s meeting in March 2026.
