The Salamander Charitable Trust, which has its principal office in Rutland, East Midlands, awards small grants to UK registered charities providing services in the UK and/or overseas. The Trust has announced it is winding down its grant-making activities over the next few years with the ultimate aim of closing.

The Trust has three trustees.

The Trust does not have a website, nor does it publish a list of grant recipients in its annual accounts. However, page 7 of the accounts provides headings under which grants were awarded. The similarities in annual allocations against each heading may suggests that the Trust tends to support many of the same charities each year.

At the time of approving the financial statements the Trustees have a reasonable expectation that the charity has adequate resources to continue in operational existence for the foreseeable future.

However, the trustees’ reserve policy is now to gradually reduce the Trust’s investments with the aim of maintaining the current level of grants to deserving charitable causes by selling investments so as to make up the shortfall in annual income, with the overall objective eventually of closing the Trust.

Further information about the Trust can be found on the Charity Commission website.
