Hospice UK is working in partnership with the Masonic Charitable Foundation (MCF) to help hospices in England, Wales, the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man improve their support for people experiencing financial hardship or living in socio-economic deprivation. Socio-economic deprivation is normally defined as a state of disadvantage due to a lack of social, economic, and material resources needed for well-being. It can result in poor health outcomes, limited life opportunities, and a cyclical impact on future generations, perpetuating inequalities.

The 2025 Hospice Grants programme has a total of £400,000 available for allocation. Hospice UK expects to award grants to 10-14 hospices, with projects running over a period of 18 months. This allows for up to three months setup phase and one year project delivery – with a further three months to cover any unforeseen delays. Applicants can be an adult hospice, children’s hospice or provide care for all ages, but they must be a member of Hospice UK and based in England, Wales, the Channel Islands or the Isle of Man. Hospices taking part in Hospice UK’s Progressive Neurological Conditions grant programme are not eligible to apply for this grant.

Grants can fund a new project or build on existing programmes of work to better support people facing financial hardship or living in socio-economic deprivation.

The programme will support hospices to:

o Work alongside people with lived experience and/or expert organisations to identify the barriers to their service experienced by people facing financial hardship or living in socioeconomic deprivation and start to take tangible steps to breaking these down.
o Build a greater understanding of the experiences of people in their community facing financial hardship or living in socio-economic deprivation as well as their experiences or assumptions of the hospice’s services.
o Identify ways their services can be adapted, improved or integrated to better support people facing financial hardship or living in socio-economic deprivation that are sustainable within current financial constraints,
and/or
o Partner with local organisations to expand the hospice’s reach, strengthen its service provision, improve the accessibility of services or maximise resources for people facing financial hardship or living in socio-economic deprivation.

Projects might include (please note that this is not an exclusive list):

o Assessing your hospice’s ability to provide high quality, accessible care and support.
o Identifying barriers to accessing high-quality hospice services.
o Redesigning hospice services and/or introducing evidence-based tools to improve care and support.
o Building lasting and sustainable partnerships with other services to improve or expand support.
o Upskilling hospice staff and volunteers to provide more holistic and individualised care.
o Evidencing the impact of changes made to hospice services to ascertain whether they have improved accessibility and inclusion,
or
o Responding to and acting upon national policy or research evidence.

The deadline for applications is 5pm on Monday 17th November 2025Applicants will be informed whether they have been successful in early February 2026.
