Volunteers’ Week 2026: Celebrating volunteers across the UK

Volunteers’ Week returns this year for its 42nd anniversary, running from Monday 1 to Sunday 7 June 2026.

We will join thousands of charities and voluntary organisations across the UK in recognising and celebrating the incredible contribution volunteers make to communities every day.

Running annually since 1984, Volunteers’ Week provides an opportunity to thank volunteers for the time, passion and skills they give so generously. The campaign also highlights the diversity of volunteering and the positive impact volunteers have across communities, organisations and services throughout the UK.

Volunteers play a vital role in supporting people and strengthening communities across Powys. From community transport and befriending services to sports clubs, community groups and local charities, volunteers make an enormous difference to people’s lives.

The week also aims to bring together national organisations and grassroots groups to celebrate the shared spirit of volunteering and the value it brings to communities year after year.

Looking for ways to say thank you to your volunteers? Here are a few ideas:

  • Write handwritten thank-you cards
  • Join in with The Big Do and hold a volunteer get-together
  • Present certificates of appreciation
  • Nominate volunteers for the Welsh Charity Awards
  • Share stories that highlight the difference volunteers make

Volunteers’ Week is led by the UK Volunteering Forum, a partnership between Volunteer Scotland, the National Council for Voluntary Organisations (NCVO), the Wales Council for Voluntary Action (WCVA) and Volunteer Now in Northern Ireland.

The UK Volunteering Forum said: “Volunteers bring a richness to organisations across the country. There is no better time to recognise the diversity of our volunteers and celebrate the difference that volunteering makes than during Volunteers’ Week.

“Without volunteers many charities simply could not function, with so many people giving up their time and going above and beyond. The week is a chance for all of us to show just how vital they are to charities and communities everywhere.”
