Top Tips for Navigating the Volunteering Wales Website

New to the Volunteering Wales website? The site is a great place to discover local opportunities that match your skills, interests, and availability but it can feel overwhelming at first.

To help you get started, Melissa Townsend, PAVO Senior Officer for Volunteering in Powys, shares her top tips for making the most of the platform.

1. Register First

  • Create an account before searching – it’s quick and helps you express interest in opportunities immediately.

  • Include your location, name, email, and phone number. This ensures organisations can contact you easily about roles you’re interested in.

2. Make the Most of the Search Tools

  • Use keywords: Think about the type of role you’d like (e.g., gardening, admin, befriending) and enter this in the search bar.

  • Not sure what to search for? Use the filters to browse by category or activity.

  • Set your location: Click the location button, enter your postcode, click lookup, then update the map to refine your results.

  • Explore multiple roles: You can express interest in more than one opportunity. Simply click on a role that interests you and scroll down to Join/Apply – this will notify the organisation, and they’ll get in touch with more details.

3. Can’t Find What You’re Looking For?

If nothing stands out right away, don’t worry. Some roles might not be listed yet. Contact PAVO or one of our volunteering delivery partners for help finding something that fits your interests and availability.

Whether you’re taking your first step into volunteering or looking to try something new, the Volunteering Wales website is a great place to start.

Happy volunteering 💚
