Small grants, usually for either £1,000, £2,000 or £3,000 are available to UK registered charities working in the UK and/or overseas for core funding or project costs. The Charity’s main areas of focus are: education, training, disability, health, arts, culture, heritage, environment, conservation and science.

Previously known as the Emerton Charitable Settlement, Wiltshire-based the Emerton-Christie Charity is a grant-making charity that makes small grants to other UK registered charities that are working in the UK and/or overseas. The charity has three trustees, one of whom is also a Trustee of the Mrs M H Allen Trust, which is aligned to The Forces Trust and has the following objectives: “to benefit such naval and/or military charities or institutions as the trustees from time to time determine. The Trustees meet at the beginning of January each year – all bids should be submitted by the 1st December. The Trustees will look favourably on bids submitted via email”.
The Emerton-Christie Charity offers core and project funding is available. While the trustees may select beneficiaries at their discretion, they tend to focus on the following:
o Education / training.
o The Advancement Of Health Or Saving Of Lives.
o Disability.
o Arts / culture / heritage / science, and
o Environment / conservation / heritage.
During the year ended 5th April 2024, the Charity awarded just one grant of £10,000 (to Trinity Laban, a college in London where global arts collaborators and creators discover, share and cultivate inspiration).
In previous years, the Charity has awarded significantly more grants. During the year ended 5th April 2023, 17 grants totalling £60,000 were made, while in 2022, 46 grants were awarded totalling £104,000.

Please note that the Charity does not have an application form and no longer accepts applications by post. Applicants should submit their request by email, setting out:
o Who they are.
o What they do, and
o The funding for which they are applying (if the funding is for a particular aspect of charitable work, or for a specific project, please let the Charity know).
The Trustees meet annually, generally each autumn. Charities are asked to submit their request for grant support by the end of August each year. The next deadline is therefore on Sunday 31st August 2025.
