Knighton and District Community Centre – Outreach Youth Work Project Volunteer

Hours of work: Variable, daytime, evening and weekend. Sessions last up to 4 hours

Base: Knighton and District Community Centre

Accountable to: Outreach Youth Worker and Lead Management Committee Member

Purpose of the Role: To engage with young people aged 12 to 25 to learn from them what youth activities they would like to be available in Knighton.

What the role involves: Working with the Outreach Youth Worker and possibly 1 other volunteer. Meetings with young people may take place in venues where they already go – school, sports clubs etc. and also “on the street” where they meet informally to socialise.

Ideal for someone who:  Is committed to participative consultation, who is a very good listener and can promote conversation without dominating or leading.

Time Commitment: Up to 4 sessions a week of 2 hours contact time each, and then recording what was heard from the young people.

Support and Training: Live support from Youth Worker. 1 active listening session can be offered if required.
