Recruiting new trustees

All boards will need to recruit new trustees at some point, whether to broaden the skills and perspectives on the board, or simply to replace retiring members.

Take some time to plan your recruitment process so that it is effective for both your organisation and your potential new trustees. It’s also important to give your new trustees a comprehensive induction into your organisation and their new role.

Here you can find resources to help boards of trustees to recruit and induct new members, drawing on the experience of PAVO’s Third Sector Skills project.

You can also contact PAVO for advice on trustee recruitment, by calling 01597 822191, or emailing info(at)pavo.org.uk

Trustee Recruitment Templates

Well designed recruitment packs, posters and advertisements will help you to spread the word about your trustee vacancies. Consider how best to reach the trustees you want to attract. This may mean putting up posters in your local area, advertising online, sending information directly to likely candidates, or all of the above. See the ‘Finding New Trustees Checklist’ above for more ideas.

Your material should be both eyecatching and clear, and include all the essential information that potential trustees need to decide whether to get in touch with you. We've put together some templates for you to use as a starting point in creating your own.
