Community of Practice: Children and Young People

Are you the parent or carer of a child or young person with a learning disability in Wales?

The next parent/carer community of practice subgroup meeting will be online on 25th June 2024  You can register for the event here:25th June 2024 1:30-2:30pm Parent Carer Sub Group Meeting (2) (office.com)

Purpose of the Parent/Carer Subgroup:

Influencing the All-Wales Community of Practice for children and young people with a learning disability: The subgroup discussions are a way to have a say, share ideas, shape aspects of the agenda and influence the wider community of practice.

Providing a Safe Space: The subgroup needs to create a safe environment where parent/carers can openly share their experiences and opinions. Making sure everyone feels psychologically safe encourages meaningful conversations.

Reflecting Parent/Carer Perspectives: It's crucial to accurately represent the views of parent/carers in the larger professional group. By listening to and including their voices, we make our initiatives coproduced, more inclusive, and relevant.

Offering Feedback: Using tools like advanced summaries and insights from co-chairs, we can provide helpful feedback to the main Community of Practice (CoP) and the Learning Disability Ministerial Advisory Group (LDMAG), and the learning disability policy leads within the Welsh Government.

Engaging in Policy Formation: Giving parent/carers a chance to respond to initiatives out for consultation fosters co-evaluation and collaborative decision-making. This ensures that our future policies and practices meet the needs and preferences of those directly impacted.
