The aim of the workshop is to enable participants to be more comfortable with talking about suicide and self harm with young people and adults.
- Self care when attending training about potentially distressing topics
- What is suicide?
- How to support someone who is suicidal: examples of things to say, signposting to support, self-care
- What is self-harm?
- What issues does self-harm raise for workers>
- Why do people self-harm?
- What are the needs of people who self-harm?
- Strategies – what to say/what not to say, coping strategies, harm minimisation, making a support map
- Strategies to support ourselves as workers
- What to do in an emergency
- Sources of support
