This Stroke Awareness course covers the risk factors, symptoms and effects of stroke.
The course also explains how care workers can help with rehabilitation and daily living.
This course is aimed at all health care workers, from those who may be new to caring for stroke – such as rotational staff or those new in their post, those wishing to refresh / extend their existing stroke knowledge and skills to those with a mixed pathology case load that includes stroke.
Learning Objectives

• What is a stroke, its causes and effects
• Transient Ischaemic Attack (TIA)
• Stroke can happen to anyone
• Damage to the brain
• Common problems - how strokes can effect movement, mobility, eating and continence
• Stroke rehabilitation - the needs of the victim, their family and friends
• Be aware of different professionals and services available
• Understand the impact of physical effects on daily living
• Psychological changes including sensory, cognitive and communication issues
