Road to Rights 50th Anniversary Conference.

Celebrating Disability Rights Campaigners and Activists - Cardiff City Stadium 19th October 2022.

Please see the invite from Disability Wales below.

Join us at Cardiff City Stadium as we celebrate 50 years of Disability Wales in what will be our first in-person event in over two years.

Disabled people have faced years of austerity and there’s no escaping new challenges presented by Covid-19 and now the cost of living crisis. Nevertheless we will take the opportunity of our conference to highlight and reflect on what has been accomplished to date in progressing disability rights and equality in Wales, as well as offer inspiration for further achievement.

In particular, we wish to celebrate the vital contribution of disability rights campaigners over the decades as well as provide a platform for emerging activists who will lead our movement into the future.

So, what can you expect on the day?

We have a brilliant line-up of speakers who will take to the stage to think back over the last fifty years and look forward to the next as we examine what a post-pandemic world will look like for disabled people. Expect conversations between disability activists as the experienced pass on their wisdom to those who are emerging onto the scene, and relish the opportunity to re-connect with fellow disabled people after more than two years of restrictions. Our AGM will also feature as part of the day’s events.

The conference will be chaired by Mik Scarlet - broadcaster, journalist, actor and musician, as well as an expert in the field of access and inclusion for disabled people.

We are looking forward to welcoming Wales’ First Minister, Mark Drakeford MS who will deliver a closing address to crown what is set to be an exciting and jam-packed day.

There is an opportunity to ask questions to the First Minister, please submit any questions you have when prompted on the event registration page.

This will be a hybrid event so if you’re not able to join us in person, don’t worry, you can tune in online! This is to ensure accessibility to a wider audience across Wales.

The return of in-person meet-ups coupled with our 50th anniversary celebrations will make this an event you don’t want to miss. We do hope you can join us.

We have some space for organisations who would like a stand, please contact us info(at)disabilitywales.org costs apply.

If you’d like to be a part of the celebrations, please book your place on Eventbrite. We can’t wait to see you there!
