The care of individual with a life a limiting condition presents unique challenges and demands a number of key skills, such as communication, assessment, symptom management and support for the teams in Powys. The learning sessions will provide definitions/concepts of palliative care, its development and its utilisation into our everyday practice.
The Palliative Care, End of Life & Bereavement Support education sessions provide a conceptual framework to develop the learner’s key skills required to care for individuals and their families / carers, who require holistic palliative and end of life support. Underpinning the sessions will be the important roles and function of the multi professional teams in Powys including the collaborative and co-ordinated support for the individual, family unit/carer and the professional. End of life care as a transition from the palliative process will be discussed: the recognition of the dying phase, supporting the breaking of bad news and good practice processes for professionals in Powys. The process and theory of loss and grief, bereavement support systems for the individual /family unit and professionals will be explored.
There will be four sessions for 2021/2022 and learners can attend individual sessions or attend the Palliative & End of Life sessions together, which will be held consecutively on the same day. The bereavement support session will be a stand-alone session.
