Aim:
This course will help participants to understand a values-based approach which embraces the four key principles of rights, independence, choice and inclusion to ensure that people with learning disabilities are supported to live as valued members of their communities.
Outcomes:
- To have an understanding of historical and current attitudes towards Learning Disability
- What is a learning disability and degrees of learning disabilities
- To have an understanding of the principles at the heart of a quality service
- To have an understanding of the real issues people face in regard to choice, participation, respect, relationships and compliance
- Become more aware of our own attitudes and values towards difference, disability, institutionalisation and inclusion
Lookng at how learning disability affects the processing of information and focussing on learning disability with the following conditions
- Cerebral palsy
- Downs Syndrome
- Fragile X Syndrome
- Global Development Delay
- Epilepsy
- Mental health
- Autism
