Exploring A Glossary of Terms for Social Prescribing, 6th July 2023.

At the Wales School for Social Prescribing Research we host three social prescribing evaluation forums per year. This event is the 10th in the series (Year 4, Session 1) and the theme for the session is the Glossary of Terms for Social Prescribing.

Please see the update and invite from RCBC Wales below.

Social prescribing has undergone a period of growth and development that has been accompanied by a proliferation of diverse and confusing terminology which creates barriers to engagement and communication.

We set out to address this issue by identifying the terminology used in social prescribing and using the data collected to produce a glossary of terms. The aim of the glossary is to provide clarity on the terminology and to help standardise the language used in social prescribing. The glossary is intended for use by commissioners, professionals who work in or with social prescribing, and the public.

During the forum we will describe the mixed methods approach employed to identify and collate hundreds of terms associated with social prescribing. We will also explain the process used to develop an interactive glossary of just 36 ‘suggested terms’, within which sector specific preferences for terms are identified.

The glossary of terms, which has been produced in conjunction with our partners in Public Health Wales, will be referenced in the Welsh Governments National Framework for Social Prescribing.

To maximise accessibility and usability, we have developed the glossary into an interactive website. This workshop will be an opportunity for us to showcase the glossary website but also for attendees to use the website and provide important user feedback.

WHILST WE WOULD VERY MUCH LIKE TO WELCOME YOU IN PERSON, THIS WILL BE A HYBRID EVENT FOR THOSE UNABLE TO MAKE A FACE TO FACE MEETING.
