Carers Wales upcoming training for Carers.

Carers Wales have several great opportunities for training coming up, Representational Training – Introductory and Advanced – and Carers Rights and Self-Advocacy Training.

Being a Carer Representative Introductory Training – 12th October 5.30pm - Zoom

Are you interested in having a voice to influence decisions for unpaid carers , or have you recently become involved in an organization where you speak on behalf of other unpaid carers?

We have created “Being a Carer Representative: Introductory Training” to give you the skills and knowledge to get started as a carer representative. The training will cover what it means to be a Carer Representative and how you can get involved in shaping services and influencing diverse organisations across Wales for unpaid carers. The training will further provide an introduction to skills that will enable you to maximise your influence as a carer representative, putting across your case and influencing decision makers to achieve change for unpaid carers.

A Carer Representative is an unpaid carer who volunteers their time to speak up for carers in their area, or nationally, in a wide range of organisations, from local councils to health boards or national organisations. By being part of committees, panels, forums, or similar, Carer Representatives ensure organisations and decision makers connected to Health and Social Care in Wales understand the experiences of unpaid carers when planning services and setting strategies.

Please note that the Introductory and Advanced training is only open to unpaid carers in Wales therefore is not open for those working in a professional capacity.

Advanced Carer Representation Training

Do you already have a reasonable level of experience in representing unpaid carers and influencing services? Do you want to develop your existing skills and knowledge to enhance your effectiveness as a Carer Representative?

We have created “Advanced Carer Representation Training” to equip you with skills and knowledge to develop your effectiveness as an experienced Carer Representative. The training will inform you about the current policy context that shapes the work of the organizations you engage with, where decisions are taken in the Health and Social Carer system in Wales and how you can lobby different levels of decision makers. The training will further provide advice on how to enhance your influencing and negotiating skills and will also consider case studies of the experiences of other Carer Representatives to enable attendees to draw lessons for their own roles speaking up for unpaid carers.

Carers Rights and Self Advocacy Training

Caring can be rewarding but also very isolating. You may not know about what your legal rights are, what help may be available and what you can ask for, how to ask, or indeed who to ask.

Our self-advocacy training aims to help you understand your rights as a carer, the system, as well as consider ways for you to be able to negotiate with professionals in a positive way.

This training aims to give you the information and skills to get your message across effectively to ensure your needs are properly considered.

There is a maximum of 40 tickets per session available for this training
