THINK - a new transport and health research network - is established in Wales.

Aberystwyth University is hosting THINK (Transport and Health integrated Knowledge research NetworK) funded by the Welsh Government through Health and Care Research Wales.

THINK has been created to bring together people working in transport and health from policy, practice and academia to develop skills, experience and knowledge, practice-orientated research, impact activities and resources that will enhance public health.

THINK is going to be scoping out new areas for fostering collaboration between health, wellbeing and transport professionals and we have four inter-related areas to work across initially, namely:

1) the impact of vehicles on air and noise pollution

2) injuries and deaths stemming from vehicle crashes

3) the impact of active travel on health

4) the impact of vehicles on community severance (the impact of vehicles dividing communities)

One of THINK’s objectives is to tackle health inequalities and inclusive policies and interventions will be central to THINK’s work. Public engagement will also be included in THINK activities and the network will be running events that support the public to get involved in research and policy.

Transport and health practitioners, policy makers, third-sector organisations and academics are now invited to join the network.

THINK is currently holding agenda setting workshops to get discussions started and identify research opportunities, policies and interventions in transport and health for development.

THINK is hosting the Transportation Public Health Link 2022 International Conference on Transport and Health. THINK members will receive discounted registration for in-person attendance in Cardiff in June (date TBC). More information is available at: http://www.tphlink.com.
