Portrayal of Older People in News Media

Please also find attached a copy of the report published by the Older People’s Commissioner for Wales – Portrayal of Older People in News Media.

The report examines the ways that the language, content and tone of news articles may influence attitudes towards older people.

The report shows that over two-thirds of the news stories analysed portrayed older people in a negative way, painting a picture of older people as being in ill-health, being victims, or being a burden on society.
