New Services from Beat ( Eating Disorder charity)

Beat announce a range of new free services and workshops designed to support families and carers supporting a loved one with recovery from an eating disorder.

Join Caroline Price, Beat’s Director of Services for an overview of the new services, outlining what services are being offered, who can attend them and how to access them.  Come along to either of our webinars on Thursday 10th June (morning session at 9:00am - 9:45am) or Monday 21st June (lunchtime session at 12:00pm - 12:45pm) to find out more. The webinars are free to attend and last for approximately 45 minutes on Microsoft Teams.  You can sign up for free tickets here.

The new services and workshops available to families include:

Solace  a free video-based peer support group hosted over Zoom.  Solace is for anyone supporting somebody with an eating disorder and gives carers the opportunity to share their feelings and get support from others in a similar situation.

"Trying to make sense of the outpatient care my daughter was receiving during a Lockdown was difficult. Just hearing other carers stories in SOLACE helped me feel I wasn't on my own and I picked up handy tips. The feedback from the Beat facilitator has helped me to grow in my confidence, as I journey alongside my daughter in her recovery. THANK YOU"~ Solace Carer

Solace currently runs seven times a week for carers across the UK; sessions can be booked here.

Nexus a new telephone coaching support service for parents, siblings, partners, and others caring for a loved one who has an eating disorder. Through Nexus, they’ll be able to connect each week with a trained Beat advisor, who’ll provide them with a place to talk through what they’re going through and empower them to help their loved one towards positive change.

“The sessions I have had to date have been excellent. Really helpful. I wish I could have had such guidance right from the start of my son’s recovery journey. Thank you Beat.”  ~ Nexus Carer

Anyone who is interested in using the Nexus service can  register their interest here to be notified of the next available space.

Raising Resilience a series of online workshops for carers that take place live over Zoom. Along with others caring for someone with an eating disorder, they will learn new skills from an experienced eating disorder clinician.

There are five workshop sessions that carers attend in total, which run weekly for two and a half hours.

“The Raising Resilience training provided by Beat is packed full to the brim with information, supportively delivered by extremely knowledgeable facilitators. The information pack provided alongside the training leaves you with a really useful ‘go to’ toolbox. Being amongst a group of others who really get it is invaluable. Thank you Beat!” ~ Raising Resilience Carer

Anyone who would like to take part in a series of Raising Resilience workshops can register their interest here to be notified of the next available sessions.

Carer information packs have also been developed and are available for services to distribute to those who are caring for a loved one who has an eating disorder. The packs are full of information for families and carers about eating disorders and their role in helping their loved one’s treatment.

94% said they’d learnt something from the pack, 87% said they’d changed their behaviour as a carer as a result and 72% said they’d noticed a change in their loved one since applying their learning.

Carer information packs can be requested (free of charge) by emailing: j.whitfield(at)beateatingdisorders.org.uk
