Wales COVID-19 vaccine updates.

The Joint Committee on Vaccinations and Immunisation (JCVI) has recommended a COVID-19 spring booster vaccine be offered to those people most at risk of serious complications from the disease.

Welsh Government has accepted this advice and from 1 April 2023 will be offering the spring booster to:

  • Everyone 75 years old and over
  • Residents in care homes for older adults
  • People aged 5 and over who are immunosuppressed.

Welsh Government advises that patients wait to be invited to their appointment.

Here’s where you can find their statement for more details.

  1. End of the offer of a universal offer of primary and secondary COVID-19 vaccine dose

Welsh Government has announced that:

  • The offer of the initial two dose universal primary course of COVID-19 vaccine, that was offered from December 2020 to all the population aged over 5, will end on 30 June 2023.
  • The offer of the universal third booster COVID-19 vaccine dose, offered from autumn 2021 to all the population aged over 5, will end on 31 March 2023.
  • Please note that Welsh Government say that people in higher risk groups and people who develop a new health condition which would make them eligible will still be able to receive their booster vaccine, if advised by a doctor or other clinician.

Anyone aged 5 to 49 who has not yet had their primary course of a COVID-19 vaccine however, is encouraged to come forward before these offers end.
