Public Health Wales - long-term strategy for a healthier Wales.

The latest long term strategy for health and wellbeing in Wales.

Please see Public Health Wales' message and update below.

Dear Employers,

Firstly, I want to thank you for your input to our new long-term strategy. I am delighted to attach a copy of the strategy along with a QR code, linking to the Plain English and Plain Welsh HTML versions.

In doing this work, we have listened to the voices of stakeholders, our staff and the public. I am grateful for the contributions that you and members of your team have made and I look forward to continuing to work with you on its delivery.

As the national public health organisation for Wales, we are working towards a Wales where people live longer, healthier lives and where all people in Wales have fair and equal access to the things that lead to good health and wellbeing.

With our partners, we aim to increase healthy life expectancy, improve health and wellbeing, and reduce inequalities for everyone in Wales, now and for future generations.

Our newly refreshed long-term strategy sets out the actions we’ll take to achieve a Wales where people live longer, healthier lives, and where all people have fair and equal access to the things that lead to good health and wellbeing.

We know there are big challenges ahead:

  • Dealing with the profound impact of the COVID-19 pandemic;
  • Mitigating the consequences of the current cost of living crisis;
  • Supporting the NHS and social care system in the face of ever-increasing demand;
  • Addressing the climate change emergency.

Each of these issues is felt unequally across our society and disproportionately affects those with the greatest health and social needs.

That’s why we need to focus our efforts on the actions that will have the greatest impact on the outcomes we seek to achieve. Our six priorities, set out in the strategy, reflect this.

Working with partners across the public health system is core to our values and I look forward to continuing to work together with you to achieve a healthier future for Wales.

Kind regards

Angela
