Holocaust Memorial Day is on 27th January

A message from Victim Support

Holocaust Memorial Day takes place every year on 27th January.

The day encourages remembrance of a world scarred by genocide and hate. This year’s theme is ‘The Fragility of Freedom’. More information is available through the Holocaust Memorial Day Trust websiteHERE.

The theme is particularly poignant for us this year – victims of hate crime often share with us how their hate experiences have curtailed their feelings of freedom – from social isolation and being able to live their lives with the freedom to be themselves.

The concept of ‘othering’ is prevalent throughout both the patterns of genocide and hate crime across the glove and across time – behaviour still evident today. Holocaust Memorial Day encourages us to remember those lost to genocide and hate, but also helps us to prepare for the future.

As a way to commemorate the day and raise awareness of the important lessons and themes, we’re sharing this e-Campaign that includes a range of resources for you to use, share and to be aware of when supporting clients, service users, neighbours, friends and family when experiencing hate.

Our service information is available in a range of languages, including Arabic and Hebrew. People who have experienced Hate Crime/Incidences can speak to our team in their first language (we have access to over 200 languages) Contact hate.crimewales(at)victimsupport.org.uk 0300 30 31 982
