People with learning disabilities in Wales - COVID19

Learning Disability Wales is trying to find 200 people with learning disabilities in Wales who would be willing to talk about their experiences and their lives throughout the coronavirus pandemic and lockdown.

Support

Are you able to support Learning Disability Wales by sharing this article with your contacts to see if they find anyone who would be willing to take part?  The first round of interviews are taking place now and will continue until the end of January.

Key Message

Ed, the main researcher outlines below how you might be able to help

"We need to speak to people with learning disabilities individually.  They would be interviewed by one of our team over the phone or through Zoom, for example.  In all it takes about 40 minutes and we try to make this conversational.

You can help us by speaking to individuals that use your service about taking part in this study and letting us know if anyone is interested in talking with us. People can have support from anyone there to help them complete the survey if this is necessary.

If they are happy to participate, all they or you need to do is to send me an email confirming they are interested in taking part and for their contact details to be shared with me (name, email & phone number) (the contact details would be kept safe and won’t be shared with anyone without their permission).

Once I have details for the best way to contact them, I would make contact with individuals to tell them more about the study and address any queries they may have.

We cannot interview  people in a group format.  However some organisations have set up times and dates where one or a few members of our team can be available to conduct interviews with people at roughly the same time.

To help people think about this a little more, I have attached the ‘Participant Information Sheet’ for your attention (both English & Welsh).  I have also attached a consent form for people to see- although this is something we would go through with them before we started the interview.

We think it is important that as many people with learning disabilities in Wales are represented in this study and share their experience of the past few months with us.  Everything people say though is confidential and will be anonymised."
