Helping End Homelessness in Powys

Bringing people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness together with third (community/voluntary), public and private sector people to co-design projects that redesign services to prevent and tackle homelessness in Powys, making it rare, brief and non-recurring.

The Project

The Helping End Homelessness Project is funded by The National Lottery Community Fund. Alongside Partners We have established a group made up of representatives of  third sector organisations, people with lived experience of homelessness, the private rental sector, Powys County Council, and Powys Teaching Health Board.

Project Aims

The project aims to tackle rural homelessness in Powys, making it rare, brief and non-recurrent. By working collaboratively and co-productively, we are currently identifying services that will shape preventative and early intervention provision in Powys. Should our bid be successful, we will be able to implement the identified services with long-term funding from the National Lottery

Homelessness in Powys

Since March 2020, almost 1000 people have registered as homeless in Powys.

The vast majority of these people have lived in Powys consecutively, for at least three out of the past five years.

For this project homelessness is defined as not having a home. A person who is experiencing or at risk of homelessness is someone who may be:

•    Sleeping rough

•    Staying with friends or family

•    Staying in a hostel, night shelter or B&B

•    Squatting (because someone has no legal right to stay)

•    At risk of violence or abuse in their home

•    Living in poor conditions that affect their health

•    Living apart from family because they don’t have a place to live together

It also includes people who are "sofa surfing" and living in an only temporary home
