It’s easy to forget that the Charity Commission and Companies House have very few requirements from your annual report - yet as busy organisations we often reproduce year on year the same structure.  We forget that it’s one of our key marketing tools for engaging potential donors’ supporters, volunteers and staff.

This session will refresh your thinking and have practical and inspirational tools and tips for you to share the story of your organisation and its successes and impact. 

Outcomes for you and your organisation

  • Conceptualise a refreshed format for your organisation’s annual report
  • Work with the new Charity Commission requirements
  • Identify your headings and map the workflow for production

With the funding environment becoming more and more competitive and the application process so often requiring a description of your big ideas in 200 words this practical hands on day will give you the skills to write compelling applications and an understanding of funding sources and which might offer your organisation the best chance of success

Making the numbers work

Making the numbers work – Finance for non financial trustees

10 am - 1.30 pm 11th December 2018

If you need to make decisions that will affect the financial performance of your organisation our jargon busting session will help you understand a range of different financial techniques to hone your skills as a trustee or manager.

You will look at the different financial reporting statements and financial measures to improve performance.

You will learn about different mechanisms of costing and financial methods such as budgeting to assist in planning and controlling performance.

Who is it for?

Trustees and staff with some or little financial knowledge or those wanting a refresher

Outcomes for you and your organisation

  1. Understand key finance terminology: assets, liabilities, depreciation, accruals etc.
  2. Know the difference between cash and profits/surplus
  3. Understand what budgets are and how to control them effectively
  4. Understand the role of the audit; what you need to know
  5. Assess key financial and operational information needed as part of financial reporting
  6. Understand the difference between statutory and management accounts
  7. Interpret accounts
