THE WOLFSON FOUNDATION GRANTS FOR HOSPICES AND PALLIATIVE CARE ORGANISATIONS – Capital grants

Capital grants starting at £15,000 are available to UK registered charities, hospices and statutory agencies working within the National Health Service for new hospice and palliative care buildings, refurbishment work or equipment.

o Who can apply: UK registered charities, hospices and statutory agencies operating within the National Health Service.

The Wolfson Foundation’s funding for hospices and palliative care organisations is now open for applications to support places which provide excellent care to patients and their families

Project proposals should be for a new building, refurbishment work or equipment that leads to at least one of the following aims:

1. Improved financial stability of the organisation.
2. Improved quality and range of services, 
and/or
3. Increased access to services for new and existing users.

The minimum grants award is £15,000. Grant awards are usually for between £30,000 and £125,000. Matched funding is a requirement of the Foundation’s Hospice and Palliative Care Grants programme for projects that have a total of cost of over £50,000. 

Applicants should be UK registered charities, hospices or statutory agencies working within the National Health Service.

Funding is not available for:

o Carers’ organisations.
o Facilities or equipment in hospitals, particularly where it relates to clinical care.
o Individuals.
o Loan repayments.
o Meetings, exhibitions, concerts, expeditions, conferences, lectures, etc.
o Non-specific appeals (including circulars) and endowment funds
o Overheads, maintenance costs and VAT.
o Projects that have already been completed or will be by the time of award.
o Purchase of land or existing buildings (including a building’s freehold)
o Respite accommodation and services.
o Running costs, including vehicle fuel and maintenance
o Salaries.
o Support and therapy centres (for example, cancer support centres, MS therapy centres), 
or
o Websites, films or promotional materials.

The Foundation operates two funding rounds each year. The key dates are:

Round 1
o Open to Stage 1 applications: 20 November, 00.01
o Stage 1 application deadline: 5 January, 23.59
o Stage 2 application deadline: 1 March, 23.59
o Funding decision: June

Round 2
o Open to Stage 1 applications: 14 May, 00.01
o Stage 1 application deadline: 1 July, 23.59
o Stage 2 application deadline: 1 September, 23.59
o Funding decision: December.
