Sabina Sutherland Charitable Trust awards small grants to UK registered charities working predominantly in the UK, but also occasionally for overseas causes, in the following fields:
o The advancement of religion
o The advancement of the arts, culture, heritage or science
o The advancement of environmental protection or improvement
o The prevention or relief of poverty, and
o Any other purposes currently recognised as charitable or any new charitable purposes which are similar to another charitable purpose.
As a guide, the Trust aims to apportion grants to the causes categorised as follows:
o Churches, Art and Religion: 63%.
o Poverty: 33%, and
o Wildlife and environment: 4%.
The Trust is keen to emphasise that these figures provide a guide and the proportions given to each sector can vary from year to year and the Trustees particularly welcome applications which combine two or more of each sector.
During the year ended 30th June 2022, the Trust awarded 58 grants totalling £105,309 (2021: 60 grants totalling £85,915). Awards were a mixture of new and repeat grants, and varied between £113 and £5,000. The total awarded is attributable to each sector as follows:
o The advancement of religion: £2,000.
o The advancement of the arts, heritage or science (church Heritage): £57,613.
o The advancement of the arts, heritage or science (other): £1,500.
o The environment: £4,500.
o The relief Of Poverty: £35,196, and
o Other/Miscellaneous: £4,500.
