The Orange Tree Trust is a family-based grant-making charity established in 2018 that supports registered charities and, occasionally, individuals across the UK and elsewhere.

The aims of the Trust are:

o To advance citizenship and community development by supporting projects that give voice to marginalised groups and communities in the UK, Israel, Jordan or Occupied Palestinian Territories.
o To advance the well-being, education, culture, health and social needs of refugees, the homeless and those suffering from mental health issues.
o To advance medical research,
and
o To advance academic study and research in the arts, humanities and social sciences, particularly under-funded or neglected areas of research.

Funding is available for:

1. Capital Projects - for work undertaken to improve or develop an asset already owned. Applicants will need to confirm ownership and when your lease expires, if planning permission is in place etc depending on the type of asset the funding will support. Applicants should indicate how the project will affect the ongoing costs of their organisation; for example whether a bigger building will cost more to run (how will the applicant sustain this?), or whether money will be saved afterwards as a result.

2. Core costs -  towards the general running costs of the applying organisation. These grants are typically unrestricted and can be used towards costs such as general salaries (but not a specific position), rent, programme costs etc.

3. Project specific activities costs - for costs involved in delivering the project, including staff and a percentage of relevant overheads as applicable. The Trust prefers to support staff salaries as part of general overheads and not individual posts.

4. Students - If seeking funding towards educational costs, the Trust will need to see evidence of previous academic achievement, and academic and personal references together with offers from academic institutions. Applicants are requested to include a summary of what they intend to do on completion of their studies.

Please note that applicants should, as part of their submission, tell the Trust what steps are being taken to address the environmental impact of the proposed project.

To apply, organisations should complete the pre-application form available on the Trust’s website.

Pre-application form should be submitted by the middle of the month preceding the Board meetings in February, June and October.

The next application deadline is therefore Monday 16th January 2023.
