The Matthews Wrightson Charity Trust (MWCT) aims to support a large number of smaller charities both in the UK and overseas by awarding grants of up to £600.

The Trust gives particular regard to:

o Charities working with young people.
o Charities working with the disabled, and
o Charities working with those who are underprivileged.

However, the Trust will consider requests from most causes. In addition to donations to charitable bodies, the MWCT may also support trainee doctors for medical elective expenses and individuals undertaking voluntary work. In both categories, preference is given to those undertaking work overseas. Grants are not however given to ‘Gap Year’ students.

The standard grant is for £600, although in both 2022 and 2023, 15 organisations received a grant of £1,000 or more. The Trust will not enter into commitments to provide long-term funding, and only one grant will be paid to an applicant in any calendar year.

Grants are not normally made to:

o Large national charities and those with an income in excess of £300,000.
o The maintenance of the fabric of churches, schools and village halls.
o Animal charities, or
o For the personal education of the applicant.

Applications must be made online by to one of the Trustees named on the ‘How to Apply’ page of the Trust’s website. If you select the area in which the charitable work will be carried out and click on the relevant Trustee’s name, this should take you to the appropriate application form.

Applications may be made at any time and are considered every three months by the Trust.
