The Master Charitable Trust is a family-based grant-making charity operating out of its offices in Fleet Street, London. The Trustees tend to be members of the Hoare family, who own C. Hoare & Co., the UK's oldest privately-owned bank. The trustees of the Master Charitable Trust are also trustees of a number of other charities. These are listed on the Charity Commission website.

The Master Charitable Trust supports a broad variety of UK charitable causes. The Trust’s grant-making policy is to make grants to UK registered charities or for charitable purposes in any part of the world.

During the year ended 30th September 2022, the Trust awarded grants to 759 different charities totalling £45,335,450 (2021: £58,183,436 to 1,125 charities). 20% of all awards were made for projects that involved citizenship and community development, closely followed by grants in support of the arts, culture, heritage and science related causes.

Grants awarded during the year were categorised under the following headings:

o The prevention or relief of poverty: £4,921,615.
o The advancement of education: £6,336,483.
o The advancement of religion: £401,943.
o The advancement of health or the saving of lives: £6,398,245.
o The advancement of citizenship or community development: £9,699,276.
o The advancement of the arts, culture, heritage or science: £8,395,247.
o The advancement of amateur sport: £381,320.
o The advancement of human rights, conflict resolution or reconciliation or the promotion of religious or racial harmony or equality and diversity: £385,791.
o The advancement of environmental protection or improvement: £1,261,459.
o The relief of people in need, by reason of youth, age, ill-health, disability, financial hardship or other disadvantage: £2,429,689.
o The advancement of animal welfare: £377,750.
o The promotion of the efficiency of the armed forces of the Crown, or of the efficiency of the police, fire and rescue services or ambulance services: £76,120, and
o Any other charitable purpose: £4,270,512.
