The Lipman-Miliband Trust invites applications for its grant program that help support:
o The study and research into socialist ideas and practice and other allied fields and the dissemination of the results thereof to the public, and
o Educational activities that raise public awareness and understanding of struggles and movements for peace, human rights and co-operation and a more equal, diverse, cooperative and democratic society.
The Trust has previously funded a range of projects, including::
o Archives: the Trust wants to preserve working class and socialist histories that are often ignored. The Trust is looking for those projects that aim to engage with the widest audiences, perhaps via a website, and that inspire for the future as well as preserving the past.
o Art Installations: the Trust has funded street art and exhibitions where artists want to get a political message across and reach a wide audience.
o Conferences: the Trust has supported conferences that have aimed to generate new ideas or engage with new audiences. The Trust wants conferences to be open and politically dynamic, and will sometimes fund travel expenses to enable people to attend.
o Educational Events: the Trust has supported a number of organisations putting on workshops and facilitating seminars.
o Film & Video: the Trust has supported campaigning groups and Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) seeking to reach a wider audience through films or wanting to work with communities in making their own videos.
o Publications: the Trust has funded all sorts of print and digital publications including books and podcasts, magazines and zines.
o Research Projects: the Trust is looking for projects that bring new ideas or reinvigorate long-standing socialist discussions. The Trust like to see research that is participative and has a good strategy for dissemination. University-based projects should show how they engage with those beyond the institution’s walls.
o Theatre Productions: the Trust has funded a number of theatre productions, small and large, local and national. The Trust likes to support productions that actively engage with their audiences and are keen to see spin-offs like podcasts or education packs, and
o Websites: the Trust has supported groups building, rebuilding or expanding their websites, and making them more easily accessible.
Grants of up to £2,000 are available with no matched funding requirement. The Trust isn't a large funder. last year it awarded grants totalling just £45,346, categorised as follows:
o Mapping, Archiving, Oral History and Commemorative Grants: £2,000 (2021: £3,690).
o Film, Theatre and Public Events Grants: £11,980 (2021: £6,500).
o Books, Printing and Publication Grants incl. websites: £21,666 (2021: £28,215).
o Educational, Research and Lecture Grants: £6,000 (2021: £10,966), and
o Exhibition and Conference Grants incl. travel: £3,700 (2021: £0).

The Lipman-Miliband Trust meets 3 times a year to consider applications. The annual deadlines for applications are:
o 31st January.
o 31st May, and
o 30th September.
The next deadlines for applications are therefore Wednesday 31st May 2023, Saturday 30th September 2023 and Wednesday 31st January 2024. Applicants are usually informed of the outcome of their application within 8 weeks following the deadline date.
