The Basil Samuel Charitable Trust awards grants to registered charities in England and Wales that are carrying out medical, socially supportive, educational and cultural activities, as well as making a number of donations to other charities. The Trust has stated that it intends to continue to support educational, cultural, medical and socially supportive charities during 2021/22.
Generally, grants of between £1,000 and £5,000 are available with the occasional higher award. There is no matched funding requirement.
During the year ended 5 April 2020 the Trust awarded 87 grants totalling £555,500, representing an average award of £6,385 (2019: 32 grants totalling £477,500, at an average of £14,921).
The Trust doesn’t provide a list of funded organisations in its most recent annual accounts. However, in previous years it has supported a wide range of organisations, including those supporting and/or providing:
o Hospices.
o Medical research.
o Museums, and
o People with a hearing or sight impairment.
