THE ASDA FOUNDATION EMPOWERING LOCAL COMMUNITIES GRANTS

Grants of between £400 and £1,600 are available to UK community groups and organisations for local projects that enable people to lead more active lives, improve mental health and wellbeing and bring people together for events that celebrate their community. Grants are also available to provide support for refugees and people struggling with increases in the cost-of-living.

o Who can apply: local community groups and organisations based and working in the UK.

The ASDA Foundaton’s Empowering Local Communities Grant programme provides small grants up to £1,600 for local projects and activities that fall within the following 4 themes:

1. Active Lives - supporting participation in group physical activities. Whether low or high impact, regardless of age or ability, encouraging people to lead more active lifestyles and for everyone to feel able to participate.
2. 
Building Resilient Communities - supporting community groups with the equipment, essentials and facilities to enable activity to take place. This might be enhancing what is already available, providing core items or enabling an activity to continue.
3. 
Leading Healthier Lives - from cooking and education classes to enabling positive mental health. Asda Foundation is seeking to support health in body, mind and soul in UK communities.
4. 
Seasonal Celebrations & Festivals - enabling communities to celebrate what matters to them. Helping to bring people together to share experiences and encouraging everyone within the community to be together (for example: Easter, Holi, Passover, The Queen's Platinum Jubilee, community garden party etc.

Grants of between £400 and £1,600 are available with no matched funding requirement.

Demand for the programme is expected to be high, so please note that applications should be made at least 6 weeks before activities are due to begin to give ASDA sufficient time to process the application.

Funding is not available for:

o Alcohol.
o Any activities for people under the age of 18.
o Excursions or day trips.
o Groups based outside the UK.
o Groups where the end beneficiary is an animal.
o Groups which charge more than a nominal fee to participate (for example, membership charges).
o Individuals.
o Insurance.
o Memberships.
o Ongoing salaries.
o Promotional costs.
o Raffle prizes.
o Restaurant meals.
o Storage rental.
o Third-party grant making organisations.
o Transport costs.
o Volunteer-only celebratory events, 
or
o Vouchers.

To apply, organisations should contact the ASDA Community Champion in their local ASDA store (a store locator is available at this LINK).

Applications must be made by the ASDA Community Champion on behalf of the applying organisation. Applications made directly by local community groups will not be considered for a grant. The application deadline is Friday 21st July 2023.
