While it’s a very small grant-making charity (the Trust only makes up to 12 awards of £400 each year), the Andy Fanshawe Memorial Trust can be a useful grant scheme for organisations and individuals that are supporting disadvantaged young people to further develop an existing interest in outdoor adventure activities in the UK such as (please note that this is not an exclusive list):
o Climbing.
o Cycling.
o Horse riding.
o Kayaking.
o Sailing, and
o Walking.
Individual young people, small groups or not-for-profit organisations, such as schools and youth organisations acting on behalf of a young person for self-planned activities or residential courses at an outdoor centre in the UK, may apply for a revenue grant of up to £400. The Trust normally makes between 8 and 12 awards each year. Individuals applying for grant support must provide a named referee.
Please note that there is a matched funding requirement for this programme. Applicants will be expected to have sought and secured funding from other sources before applying. Funded applicants will be asked to write a short report to the Trust following the their adventure or activity.
Applicants should:
o Be applying for an activity that takes place within the United Kingdom
o Be developing their existing experience and interest.
o Be prepared to write a short report after your adventure/s.
o Demonstrate that there is an element of adventure in their plans, and
o Have carried out some fund-raising for the activity or adventure.
Funding is not available for:
o Capital projects.
o Environmental organisations (unless there is a strong element of adventure).
o Equipment for group activities, although funding for equipment will be considered if it is for an individual who is showing long-term commitment to her/his activity.
o Foreign trips or expeditions, or
o Taster sessions, one-off trips, or residential trips for large groups.
Applications may be made at any time by email. Submissions must not exceed 1,000 words should address the following 10 questions:
1. Who is applying?
2. What does the project propose to do, and where and when?
3. Who will benefit?
4. Why do they deserve the Trust's support?
5. What experience does the applicant have of the activity so far?
6. How will the funding help the applicant develop their interest further?
7. What are the applicant's plans for continuing to progress their interest?
8. What fundraising is being done or is planned?
9. What is the overall budget?
10. How much is being applied for?
