Lawrence Atwell's Charity (the Skinner's Company) provides grant funding to registered charities (and, we believe, Community Interest Companies) in England and Wales that are enabling disadvantaged young people to move into employment or become employment ready.

The Charity also offers grants to individual young people aged 16-26 living in England and Wales from low-income backgrounds to help them gain vocational, accredited qualifications. In its programme for individuals, grants of up to £1,500 are available to take courses (up to level 3) that will help them move into employment. Funding can be given for course fees, equipment/materials, travel costs, childcare and living costs. There are no application deadlines: applications may be made at any time.

Under its programme for charities, registered charities and Community Interest Companies may apply for a revenue grant (the charity does not fund capital projects) of up to £10,000 for each year up to a maximum period of 3 years. Grants tend to be for specific projects rather than general organisational costs. The charity will, however, consider pro-rata staffing and operational costs where appropriate.

The charity will prioritise charities which:

o Are based in London and Kent (the historic areas of Skinners' Company activity).
o Help young people attain a vocational qualification across England and Wales.
o Offer long-term tracking of beneficiaries, to establish quality outcomes,
and
o Operate in partnership with other local organisations across England and Wales.

Funding is not available for:

o Capital costs.
o Organisations that do not provide direct services to clients.
o Organisations with an annual turnover above £1 million.
o Organisations which applied to the Charity unsuccessfully within the previous 18 months.
o Organisations which are not a registered not-for-profit organisation.
o Organisations with reserves of more than 12 months' expenditure.
o Overseas work.
o Projects that are purely for the advancement of religion or politics.
o Projects that have no community or charitable element.
o Retrospective funding, deficits or loans.
o Services which are a statutory responsibility,
or
o Work that does not support young people into employment or to become employment ready.

To apply, eligible organisations are required to contact the Charity using the email address below, together with a short outline of their project. If they are considered eligible, the Charity will then contact the organisation with details about how to apply.

The Charity meets twice each year to review applications, in April and November.

The next application deadline is on Friday 16th February 2024 for the charity's April 2024 meeting.

Further information about the Charity's grant programmes for organisations and individuals is available on its website.
