BUTTLE UK CHANCES FOR CHILDREN GRANT PROGRAMME

Grants of up to £2,000 are available for vulnerable children and young people across the UK aged 18 and under to improve their social and emotional wellbeing.

Buttle UK’s Chances for Children grants are designed to improve the social and emotional wellbeing of vulnerable children and young people across the UK, as well as improve their capacity to engage in education and overcome the financial barriers that prevent them from achieving their educational, training and employment potential.

Applications to the Chances for Children can only be made by a frontline professional. The professional must have made at least one home visit, and made a full assessment of the child or young person’s needs. S/he will also be expected to supervise how the grant is spent, upload receipts and complete an evaluation form.

Grants of up to £2,000 are available for items and activities that help improve social and emotional wellbeing and increase capacity to engage in education and learning. This can include such things as (please note that this is not an exclusive list):

o Clothing and school uniforms.
o Family activities.
o Items and activities that support learning and development such as laptops, books, wi-fi, educational toys and tuition, 
and
o Other household items that cannot be sourced from other providers.

In order to qualify for a grant, a child or young person must:

o Be aged 18 and under if living with parent/carer, or 20 and under if living independently with little or no support from their family.
o Be living on a low income and experiencing financial hardship.
o Have experienced a crisis that has recently had a significant and enduring impact on their social wellbeing, their emotional wellbeing and their educational engagement, 
and
o The person or his/her family must have recently taken action to improve their situation, are actively engaging with support and are moving on from the crisis.

Funding is not available for:

o Applications requesting mainly household items.
o Children and young people living or normally residing outside of the UK.
o Children and young people where poverty is the only factor.
o Children and young people who continue to be in crisis and at serious risk.
o Debt repayments.
o Funding that would create an unsustainable situation for the family/young person (ie long-term counselling support, unaffordable activities or long-term childcare etc.)
o Items/activities where there is a statutory responsibility to provide..
o Legal fees.
o Looked after children living in foster or residential care.
o Medical treatment.
o Organisations seeking funding for chargeable services they provide themselves.
o Rent or rent arrears.
o Where family separation is the only factor.
o Where the main reason is disability or ongoing serious illness of a child, 
or
o Vehicle insurance or maintenance.
